Evening Events
Sunday Night: Student Orientation
Our first night is a group orientation lead by our Camp Director and our Deans. It's a great reminder to our students on what is expected of them over the week at Wildwood Music Camp. We touch base on our rules and regulations to make sure all of our students are on their best behavior in order to have a successfully week at camp with us. We take time to remind them how living at a higher altitude for a week can effect them and discuss proper hydration and general mountain safety. At the close of their orientation students have time to settle into their cabins, get to know their bunk mates and counselor(s) before lights out.
Monday Night: Meet the Faculty & Staff
Monday night is open to interpretation. It changes from week to week based on our coaching staff. We've heard the history of the French Horn, learned how to make double reed instrument reeds. We've explored what happens when a string bass gets an extension and how it changes the instruments range, along with learning what keeps music exciting and a passion for coaches making a living in the performing and teaching industry right now. It's always an interesting program and one we are excited to compile each year
Tuesday Night: Games & Folk Dancing
On Tuesday evening our students come together for an evening of fun games and group folk dancing lead by their counselors and Deans. Even the most reserved camper can't help but laugh when they do the chicken dance, the hokey pokey and Amos Moses a long standing Wildwood Music Camp favorite. Games like Ninja and Cowboy, Lady and the Bear pose students against each other while their friends cheer them on to be the last one standing in their group. Games involving teamwork bring out the best character values in our students and it's a great social setting where new friendships are fostered and strengthened.
Wednesday Night: Staff & Faculty Recital
This exciting evening is an opportunity for our students to see what their coaches are up to in their professional music careers. We are so lucky to have coaches from different music education and performance backgrounds that join us each summer at Wildwood Music Camp. Our Faculty and Staff join together in ensembles and solos to treat our students to an evening of music that feature our coaches, counselors and staff playing music from different generas and periods of music. As usual we wrap up our evening with the famous Wildwood Dixie Land Band.
Thursday Night: Student Solo Recital
We invite students to bring the music they've been working on at home and to talk with their coach about the possibility of being a part of this exciting recital. Make sure to bring the Piano part so that our resident piano accompanist can review it and schedule a rehearsal prior to the recital.
Friday Night: Student Skits & Social Dance
An evening of jokes, skits and dancing to contemporary pop music is an opportunity for our students to celebrate the accomplishments they've made over the week. Students let their hair down and "unwind." An opportunity to be showcased in a funny skit with their cabin mates and provide some comedy for their fellow campers. Glow-sticks, flashing lights and music give our students another chance to make some amazing memories at Wildwood Music Camp. An evening of laughter and fun sharing memories and highlights from their week with us.
Saturday Night: Chamber Concert
Our final evening at Wildwood Music Camp concludes with an all student chamber ensemble concert. Our students all participate in ensemble rehearsal throughout the week leading up to this evening. When students arrive at registration they take part in an audition for coaches which helps us place them with students of the same level for chamber music. These groups have mini break out rehearsals all week learning what its like to play in quartets, trios, quintets and other small groups. Our Saturday evening concert gives these small ensembles the opportunity to share with their fellow students the music they've been perfecting over the week outside of Band and Orchestra. This concert is open to Family and Friends.
