Instrument Needs
Its important to make sure that your instrument is in top playing condition prior to your arrival at camp. There is no instrumental repair available at camp, so make sure that any needed repairs are addressed in advance. Playing instruments in the mountains at a higher altitude can effect instruments. We suggest the following:
Woodwinds:
A humidifier should be kept in your case due to the dry climate and severe temperature changes in the mountains. If you don't have one already a piece of sponge dampened and wrapped in foil kept in your case works as well. Remember to bring extra reeds with you in case you need them during the week.
Brass:
Be sure to pack valve/slide oil and any mutes you have for rehearsal and concert.
Strings:
Remember to bring resin, peg lubricant, extra strings, mutes, and any small tools necessary for minor adjustments needed throughout the week. A humidifier/dampit must be kept in your case at all times to prevent cracking. String instruments react to the mountain environment and altitude change drastically.
Percussion:
Bring sticks/mallets and a practice pad if you have one clearly marked with your name.
General Music Needs:
Bring a folding music stand labeled with your name if you have one. Remember to mark all music folders/stands/cases with your name. If you play a second instrument we encourage you to bring it to camp. You may have the oppertunity to play it at some point, so its better to come prepared.
During the week all instruments and their cases will remain in the main rehearsal hall when not in use. Instruments remain there due to tight spaces in student cabins. The hall is locked each evening and monitored through out the day to ensure the safety of all instruments and camp equipment.
